A Journey Between Art and Anatomy
Anatomy as a Universal Language Between Science and Art

I have dedicated more than 30 years of my life to art.
My journey began as a traditional sculptor, fascinated by the forms of the human body. Over time, that passion led me into the entertainment industry, where I have created characters and creatures for films, video games, live performances, documentaries, and advertising campaigns.
I have had the privilege of collaborating with some of the world's leading studios and contributing to productions such as The Hobbit, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, among many others. I have also worked on projects for artists such as Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears, bringing my anatomical and artistic expertise to the creation of characters and immersive worlds.
My professional journey has included studios such as Weta Digital, Industrial Light & Magic, and Ubisoft, where I was able to further develop my skills in anatomical modeling and creature design.
Throughout all these years, one passion has remained constant: the study of human anatomy. Not only as a technical foundation for art, but as an endless source of inspiration, understanding, and respect for the human body.
This passion is reflected in my work as an artist and is one of the reasons clients seek me out—to create believable characters that tell compelling stories and connect emotionally with audiences.
Here, I share a selection of both personal and professional projects that reflect that journey.
From Film Production to the Dissection Room
My search for deeper anatomical understanding eventually took me beyond the digital world.
I established a close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Valencia, where I began assisting in anatomy classes within the dissection room. There, I discovered a deeper connection to anatomical knowledge by working directly with real human structures alongside experienced medical professionals and anatomists.
The Birth of Rafa Zabala Anatomy
From that experience—and from countless conversations with students, doctors, and artists—Rafa Zabala Anatomy was born.
A project that brings together my two greatest passions: art and anatomy.
Through Rafa Zabala Anatomy, I share what I have learned over decades of study and professional experience, offering online and in-person courses, cadaver-based anatomy experiences, clay modeling workshops, and both physical and digital educational resources.
Everything is approached through a visual, rigorous, and human perspective, because I understand the body not only as a structure, but as a language.
Thank You for Being Part of the Journey
If you have made it this far, we likely share the same curiosity and the same fascination for understanding what lies beneath the surface.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
I invite you to continue exploring, learning, and creating with me.
